Summary

This funding opportunity is available to organizations in the United States that serve young people (approximately ages 5–25) with an interest in advancing equity and strengthening the use of evidence in youth‑serving systems. It is designed for nonprofits, research institutions, and university‑based centers (rather than individuals or for‑profit businesses) that can partner with practitioners or agencies and focus on meaningful outcomes.

The funds may be used for research, program evaluation, organizational capacity‑building, or building stronger partnerships between researchers and practitioners. The core interests include: reducing inequality in youth academic, behavioral or economic outcomes; improving how research evidence is used in practice and policy; strengthening youth‑service organizations; and building the infrastructure for sustained change.

Award sizes vary depending on scope and duration. For example, some major research grants range roughly from $100,000 up to $600,000 (or higher in rare cases) over 2‑4 years. Smaller “officer”‑level grants may be in the $25,000‑$50,000 range over 1‑2 years. Since the cycle is ongoing across multiple grant types, funds are awarded annually or multiple times per year for different programs.

The intent is to support high‑quality research and practice that not only asks “what works for youth” but also “how and why it works,” and “how decision‑makers use evidence to improve outcomes.” Projects that include partnerships across institutions and agencies, that are led by capable teams, and that propose to deliver meaningful insight and change will be most attractive. Because of the emphasis on youth systems, research institutions or nonprofits based in the U.S. and focused on youth contexts—schools, community programs, justice or child‑welfare settings—are a better match than general service funds. The cycle requires applicants to align with the funder’s mission and to propose measurable outcomes, plans for dissemination of findings, and sustainability beyond the grant term.
